When I imagine Tolkien writing this book I picture him searching for a dew drop that embraces the morning sunlight perfectly. When he finds it hanging from a leaf and it sings the beginning of the world he traps the song in a jar. Then he takes it back to his study and opens it in candlelight to transcribe it for the rest of us. And then all the dew drops sing.
Well that’s my theory at least…..
