I read this more than 10 years ago, before the second one came out. It's a good thing I decided to reread it before I read the sequels, since I had almost completely forgotten it. I had certainly forgotten how relentlessly exciting it is. If this were food, I would be gulping it down without chewing properly. I think I'll read it again in a week or two, more slowly.
