Huh... Weird way to start this... I've been in that exact spot. Well sort of. Only much darker place truthfully. No note.... no will... no thoughts besides wanting to end the pain. This scene is a little too neat and tidy. Too unemotional. SMH... I'm either gonna hate this or love it. So far... not buying it.

What? This is a paranormal story? No hint of that in the blurb! Yet Tony is thinking, "That was family business-pack business, best left at home." " It was advice for choosing a mate, not a friend." .... That certainly hints at this being paranormal.
