It's definitely a YA novel. Very mansplanny and drawn out in its explanation... and hooray, everyone lived... At least I wasn't crazy about the timeline stuff. He doesn't age while the games are on? They're only on for a week at a time every few months; how can that slow down decades of aging? Cause th old man at the carousel was defeinately Legend with his wrinkles and old age, so Julien should also be very old....

Again, listening not reading, so I'm guessing on the spelling of "Deangle" but I'm sure it's an anagram for "Legend". Though if I look it up I know I'll get spoilers.

I hate the persistent trope that female characters are only interesting if they're s*xually assaulted.....

The color thing bugs me.... mostly the "colors she has never seen". It's like it's trying to hard to be unique, and it's just meh

I feel like everyone tries to rewrite the scene from the Notebook.... the rain, the arguing, the tension.... this is like the umpteenth book in a row, and I'm just kind of bored with the same plot device over and over.....

Again I'm having comprehension issues.... they talk about her grandma when she was young, they talk about events in the past, but they aren't portraying Julien as very much older than Scarlett. So what is the timeline here??

Me re reading chapter 21 several times because I'm struggling with reading comprehension😭

The lesson is: once the pretty exterior is stripped away, there is only the dangerous interior left. And once all of the beauty and magic is stripped away from Caraval, it will be a very dangerous place to be.
