Mateo is 85% done

I’m 88% into Dead in the Water and at this point I’m not reading a book, I’m surviving an ambush.

John Marrs is out here handing out twists like free samples at Costco, except every single one makes me gasp, pause, and stare into the distance like I’ve been personally wronged. Every time I think I’ve got it figured out, the plot taps me on the shoulder and says, “That’s adorable,” and swerves again.
