Wow. Baby Kochamma is a masterclass in character writing. So cleverly written. Roy doesn't spell it out, she plants a series of disappointments like breadcrumbs so that we can make those inferences. Bravo.

Absolutely gorgeous writing. Roy's description is sumptuous, immersive, and so controlled. I’m in awe of the character work already. The few pages on Baby Kochamma, in particular, is a masterclass in quiet characterisation. It embodied show, don't tell. I'm so impressed so far.

Are there so many names that I'm quite confused? Yes. Am I considering putting together a diagram of the family tree? Maybe? Are the descriptive parts absolutely gorgeous? Yes. Am I going to keep pushing through? Also, yes.
