Was literally considering giving this book 2 stars for the lack of character exploration, pacing, and glossing over scenes. But this battle is literally tough as hell. Like thank you for bringing Will and Horace back together, their chemistry is so fun. I swear these series would be so much better if the books were longer

These books waste so much time reiterating character trait/attributes over and over again. Yes, I know the Skandins are simple minded and lack the desire to learn strategy. You don’t need to repeat it for the upteenth time. I want to focus back on Will’s friendship with Evenlyn and Horace. Hell the only reason why Horace came on this mission was for Will and we have yet to see an actual reunion between the two

Will and Evenlyn’s escape literally took up an entire book LAST BOOK and now their presence in the place they escaped from is treated like nothing. No potential PTSD from Will? Considering he doesn’t remember anything because of the warmweed, no flashbacks? No Slaves in the last book recognizing them? They escaped from THE Oberjarl’s fortress, you’d think they’d be treated as a bigger deal no?

I don’t understand Halt’s idea for the battle position. Why would he give the Temujai the idea that the Skandians are smarter than they are? Wouldn’t that ruin the element of surprise they have over them?

So like Halt is quick to want to call Evanlyn “princess” but don’t hesitate to give her the first watch of the camp? Lol okay.

Bro we get it with the characterizations. Horace is big and slow; Halt is snarky and old with sass we get it. You don’t have to keep reminding me how simple minded Horace is damn. 2 Dimensional much?
