The story has developed and the circus is fully underway drawing massive crowds with its every stop, but Marco and Celia have barely interacted and I’m almost halfway done! We get random clockmaker (Herr Thiessen) or of Tara or Bailey POV’s. Obviously intending to weave a long and complicated web that there’s magic & manipulation afoot but still character development is sorely missing…

This book had a problem with giving A LOT of details when it comes to setting up the whimsical world of the circus, but misses out on explaining how Marco and Celia are now mysteriously in love…? They had that moment when he showed her around the house, and then apparently 3 yrs passed and they’ve barely met but are in love?! Huh?? Everyone’s outfit and the desserts are described, yet the characters? Nope. Ugh
