After the Burger Court ended the federal moratorium on death penalties in 1976, states were so giddy to begin executing people again that they accepted the creation of a “lethal injection” by a man with zero qualifications and zero medical research to back up his decision. For decades and decades and decades people would be (and still are) subject to tortuous deaths by drug concoctions with no medical literature.

In a just society, the death penalty would be frowned upon. Unfortunately, we live amongst a population that will applaud and/or justify extrajudicial state killings exactly 50(!) years after the Supreme Court declared the death penalty constitutional. The American populous is a bloodthirsty lot.
