I appreciated this chapter.
P60: “The key to a family’s functioning as a redemptive community, a family that is held together by the glue of the gospel, is parents who so trust in Christ that they are ready and willing to confess their faults (and sins) to their children.”
100%. If we actually, truly believe the gospel and are abiding in Christ, our sanctification will model the Christian life for our kids.

Parents aren’t the Holy Spirit. Sometimes it sounds like Tripp might be forgetting this.
“How can you gently convict your teenager about his or her skewed desires and turn him or her in the direction of Jesus?”

If we said this about evangelism we’d look crazy, because we know that we people can’t convict of sin or change someone’s beliefs (p44). That’s why we pray for the lost.

“I am persuaded that our idols have caused us to see opportunity as trial (OUCH, yes…) and to strike back at our teenagers (or just children) with bitter words of judgement, accusation, and condemnation, behaving toward them with intolerance and anger. While God calls us to love, accept, forgive and serve, we are often barely able to be nice.”
Shoot.
