Women mentioned in this book: Evie, her sister, and Mum—kidnapped, tortured, abused; a female cop—Cyrus’s “biggest fan”; Florence, a lawyer—possible love interest to Cyrus; two immigrant survivors—kidnapped and forced into sex work; and the ‘shared girlfriend’ from Cyrus’s past with another cop.
We are soooo lucky to have men like Robotham around to show us that true heros are all men and will keep us girls safe ❤

[Agnesa] stealing Mamas makeup, rolling her tunic high to show off her legs. Wanted to knot her blouse like Britney Spears. Her body grew quicker than her brain.
[Aunt Polina] had lots of boyfriends, none of whom wanted to marry her because she gave it away for free. She told me make sure to marry a rich boy.
[Evie re. Florence] I'm not saying she has to fuck you.
[Evie re. Georgia] she wants to sleep with you.

In the first 22 pages, Cyrus is described as a tattooed “bad boy” and “handsome like a single dad in a rom-com.”
We’re told he rescued Evie, who was damaged beyond love, just pulled four people from the water on a beach outing and a detective just referenced him as being a female detectives “biggest fan.”
I’m expecting a scene where everybody claps for this hero.
Why do I feel like Robotham is projecting?

"I still see it now in the way she (Evie) wraps her arms across her chest as though shes hiding her breasts"
He's referring to Evie trying to disguise herself due to past traumas. Shes trying to hide, not be attractive so why sexualise a vulnerable moment? Ugh, male authors 🙄
