the way I could write a whole essay on the way generational trauma presents itself in this novel and the way every character passes on to their children the behaviors that they learned from their parents and nobody ever breaks the cycle. none of these kids ever really stood a chance. it’s one of the more interesting aspects of the book that I never see discussed but it’s so heartbreaking

“200 years ago, the average person died at 40” is a statistical error. the characters of wuthering heights, who all died before 30, were outliers adn should not have been counted

honestly the character I feel the most for is Ellen, who is having to watch these people she grew up with and played with as kids become something she no longer recognizes but being able to do nothing about it because she is of a “lower” class than them. but also not being able to leave them because of that loyalty she feels from having grown up with them. poor Ellen

1) I don’t know how I didn’t pick up on it the first time that Heathcliff is 100% Mr. Earnshaw’s illegitimate son bc it’s so obvious and it makes everything afterward so much more gross
2) I also forgot how many times she makes it abundantly clear that Heathcliff is NOT WHITE. and I’m angry all over again about the new movie casting Jacob Elordi
