Politics are a heavy part of this story... but they are somewhat shallow and ridiculous.

Maeve is useless to a tea in the role she's supposed to fill.

The court is... believable, I guess? But even then, there should have been factions even though the throne has been usurped. Right now, there's literally no one on the side of the Crown, even though it's only been a couple of years. That's... rather improbable.

I like it so far ~

Good intro to the world, loved the mixture of the fantasy genre with the Roman culture. It's a new avenue

I'm a little scared with all the Goodreads reviews. But we ain't new here, we know those can be misleading 😋

Emz Fights are ok. Compared to what other reviews have been saying, I'm kinda enjoying them. The writing might be lacking and not giving us the fast-pace feel needed to encompass a good fighting scene, but I'm still able to immerse myself in the descriptions.

The overall pace of the book is not slow per say, but it's not fast either.

The love? The love isn't believable. This one is a clear example of confusing lust for chemistry. There's no yearning, no getting led into the sweet embrace of love. Maybe because all of the chapters leading to such developments are painted by the Leith's POV? A man's way of loving? Idk.

My biggest issue lies with Maeve, truly. I cannot fathom someone being in her position, beniffiting from higher education and special attention to raising her to be a queen and be this powerless. Powerless not only in her standings in the court, but with her knowledge as well. Truly, all she's got going for herself is her wealth and her immediate entourage that also just does nothing much court-wise. They've got no allies, which is hard to believe, no grasp on the current political issues and power shifts.. no, it's hardly possible. Maeve? She's gullible. So f*cking gullible. "OH, I suspect these people have had a hand in killing the Queen, who better to asks than the people I'm suspecting?". Nah, girlie....

Idk if I'll finish this
