I’m already struggling to pick this book up. I think all the Filipino dishes and words from her aunties take me out of the flow of the story and, if I try and put a finger on this, make me feel like this book isn’t for me.
The aunties also seem to live in a world where cop shows and Law & Order have never existed judging by the absolute naïveté when it comes to dealing with the police.

I could easily quit this book. It reads like a YA story where every single thought the character has is spelled out for you…like the first couple of Harry Potter books 🙄
Still…I’m curious to see how the murder resolves so I’ll power thru.
