“White Americans, whether they engaged in slavery or not, had a considerable psychological as well as economic investment in the doctrine of Black inferiority.”
“You are the children of Abraham Lincoln. We are at best, only his stepchildren. Children by adoption, children by forces of circumstances and necessity.” This is a powerful quote as it is the labor of Black people that built and birthed America and to only be seen as a circumstance by society is sickening. I applaud Douglass for his and all abolitionists’ efforts.
