Ellwood and Gaunt continue to write. Back at school, Lantham is 15 and in love with Ellwood. Ellwood also loves him back I discovered Ellwood is jewish. Back in the army Gaunt is developing a good friendship with Maitland, whom Ellwood also is fond of. Ellwood beat up Burgoyne for trashing his poetry.

Gaunt and Ellwood right to eachother. Turns out Ellwood has always loved Gaunt. Gaunt seems to repress this.

Gaunt enlisted in the army lying he was 19 to prove he wasn’t a coward German spy. Ellwood kissed him on the cheek, making Gaunt feel awkward.

Gaunt turned 18. There is an intimate electricity between him and ellwood

They are both 17/18 years old in the final year of school

Elwood has dark slicked back hair and is a Prefect. He barely touches Gaunt even though Gaunt wants to tell him that it bothers him.
