Not to be pedantic about the fifteen and thirteen year olds reasoning skills but why would you assume your grandmother is trying to feed you shitty soup out of thermos’ and powdered donuts when her first gripe when she locked you away in the attic rooms is no sweets so you don’t get cavalries. I understand you’re all starving but this seems like a red flag we are completely disregarding to our detriment

VC has to stop lampshading how bad the attic is…she has Cathy going on and on about how bad it would be to be stuck in the attic for an extended period of time…ma’am your the one at the typewriter that’s gonna stick these kids in that attic for three years!

The fact that Cathy and Chris just found out that their ancestors were probably confederate spies and that doesn’t even rank in like to top 10 pressing issues of them being locked in this abandoned wing of the mansion with access to the attic…I’m also annoyed that Chris tries to make Cathy call the Civil War the States War…you were both raised in Pennsylvania what is going on

I’m aware were gonna spend the next like 70% of the book with Cathy clocking Corrines resentment and dismissal of her children while Particularly Christopher is none the wiser…but it’s so illuminating to have the context of Corrine seeing Cathy as a more bold and aggressive version of herself at 12…
