not only do I have several problems with the popularity of Fourth Wing and what that did and implied to the publishing world but also one of the things I feared most is happening: the male leads now call the main characters the cringiest nicknames and the reader is supposed to think it's cute and sexy and ✨️different✨️. calling Serena "killer"? are you serious? with a beautiful name like Serena? istfg

several thoughts: koen's character is super straight woman coded, respectfully, but he is; not a fan of modern slang making it into the book, I don't care who is "galaxy brain", and this also contrasts a lot with the author then using words I've never heard of (but I love that for me), and finally Koen does not, at all, talk like a 36 year old. I can buy Serena buying 25 any day, Koen being 36 however...

I'm still enjoying it but I can't help but notice how fanfiction-y this is written like, with short sentences and very very informal. I'm a big fanfiction lover don't get me wrong lmao, but I also know how to discern from good and bad fanfiction and this type falls right in the middle of it for now
