Using quotation marks and commas and character names seems like the appropriate way to write...but wtf do I know? I'm not a Pulitzer winner.
Joking aside, his writing style is better in this book than in The Road. Once you start reading the dialogue in an 1850s Southern accent, it's much easier to understand lol

Not gonna lie. This one is getting tough to keep up with what's going on. McCarthy LOVES to write 3 pages worth of desert description followed by 1 sentence of major plot prose. What a guy (I'm this* close to DNFing, Cormac. This* close).

Oh. Umm. Wow. So...the "Blood" in "Blood Meridian" was, in fact, NOT metaphorical or symbolic.
