putting a pin in how the intro's way of noting visual details implies an aim for the 'cinematic feel' that distracts so many modern works. much prose feels like one afraid to overwrite editing down to end up with dissonantly flowery underwriting, most due to sentence portioning & reliance on common phrase, but some parts i really like! waiting for the character voices to be distinguished in some way other than humor.

in times like these i'm honestly just grateful to read a book so committed to sounding beautiful, even if it's often a little overzealous. though i still can't tell if the fast & furious thing is an ongoing bit or an accident

ONLY A FIRST IMPRESSION.... i am giving it time. but i note the reliance bit because the frequent use of implied english proverb, while well integrated, makes me wonder if those with english as a second language, or unfamiliar with american culture, could intuit it the same, or only feel the sentence is incomplete.
