Finished first volume "The Siren Years" covering 1937-1945 when Charles Ritchie served in Washington, London, and Ottawa. Ritchie reports on literary London, including his friendship with novelist Elizabeth Bowen, historic moments (Normandy right after D-day) and diplomacy during and after WWII. As a Canadian, he has a unique view of Britain and the U.S. which makes for an interesting mix.

This volume contains three diaries by Canadian diplomat Charles Ritchie: The Siren Years (1937-1945), Diplomatic Passport (1946-1962), and Storm Signals (1962-1971). The diary starts off in Washington, D.C., but will soon be switching to London for WWII. These first pages include scenes at the embassy and Dumbarton Oaks, a stay with the Vanderbilts at The Breakers in Newport, R.I., and a visit to Nova Scotia.
