How would the Sundry possibly have the same venom as Earth bees??? They aren't actually Earth insects! They didn't evolve on Earth and vertrbrates are a new concept to them apparently, so whyyyyy would they use defenses that evolved to work against vertebrates?

I am having some questions about the xenobiology here. I'm really hoping some more explanation is provided to make this seem more plausible.

Emily M LOL -I nitpick the same kind of things! (I got to annoy my mom when we were co-watching ‘A Discovery of Witches’ by pointing out all the ways vampire and witch genetics, as depicted, make zero sense.)

Kaa I can sometimes overlook these kinds of things, but it first showed up in the first few pages of this book and writing isn't nearly good enough to distract me from how little sense it makes.

Kaa Also the book keeps claiming that humans don't have symbionts, which requires such a narrow view of symbiotic relationships that it feels pretty absurd in the context of alien lifeforms. I would have been much more forgiving if the aliens were just weirded out that we have so little ability to communicate with our bacteria.

Emily M 😂😂 That could be SO funny!
And, yeah, the nitpicks come out when I’m a little bored. (In the case of ‘Discovery of Witches’, the romance was doing NOTHING for me, so my brain was left with “that’s not how chromosomes work!”)

Kaa Yeah, that's exactly it! If something isn't keeping my brain entertained, it entertains itself looking for things that don't make sense.
