This is one of those books where I can’t tell if the characters are meant to be naive or if the author is (shockingly, creepily) naive.

Amazing how characters in historical fiction novels never oppose the Civil War because they want to preserve the Union, despite that being the main reason why people opposed the war in real life.

Jesus CHRIST this is heavy-handed. I hope there’s some kind of twist, otherwise this is going to be a painful read.
