*Spoilers in comments* i’m not sure I understand why this book is so highly rated because there were so many parts that were absolutely insufferable, including the author going into painful detail about things that did matter. Additionally, the main character, despite being a police chief, makes such poor decisions that it’s hard to not roll your eyes as the plot light is progressing. Would not recommend.

Lena This story is one of many of a series of police chief inspector Kate Burkholder, who is attempting to solve the murder and dismemberment of a member of the Amish community named Samuel, who owns a local nursery. To keep things short, it turned out that Samuel and his friend Erin were involved in trafficking innocent Amish women into a ring that either got them working at the restaurant for the leaders of this sex trafficking ring or working at a strip club and doing other nasty things. Kate is drugged twice, and then at the end of the book she’s drugged and kidnapped and taken to the cheetah lounge, which is basically the hub for where the sex trafficking is taking place. Essentially, what happens is that after Samuel with traffic a woman he would take them to this club and then they would either work at the bar. That’s also owned by the same person who owns the club, or taken to work at the country club, which is run by the partner of the person that’s running the sex trafficking ring. Basically at the end of the story, Kate is drugged by one of the girls at the country club while she’s speaking to the manager who is one of the partners in the sex trafficking ring. They take her to the cheetah lounge in the back and basically beat her up, but with the help of the same woman who drugged her she was able to beat up the guy that manages the country club and escape. They run into the strip club, which was right next-door to where they were and the girls help her to escape and then as she’s running away towards the convenience store one of the guys that’s a partner of the sex trafficking ring tries to chase her down in a car, but ends up getting hit by her husband who she had called when all of this went down. At the end, she’s very thankful for the woman that basically saved her life.

Lena I don’t quite understand the popularity of the book because I don’t find it particularly well written, and the main character Kate is supposed to be a police chief makes so many poor decisions, including the fact that she went to what was presumed to be one of the areas that was involved in a sex trafficking ring by herself, even though she was previously drugged one trying to undergo this investigation. There were so many kind of holes in the plot and questioning of what the main character was doing that it led me to roll my eyes numerous times. Additionally, there were so many canned sentences and phrases, and so many annoying things that really got under my skin towards the end of the book. That’s why overall I would not recommend.
