Why does the author ask her audience to be insightful, curious and smart then treat them like they are blithering idiots by writing her supposedly brilliant characters (with how many hundred years of experience?) unable to see what's right in front of them.

You know what's more boring than a book filled with self-effacement? A book filled with the I love you but won't admit it so even though I'm in your proximity I will yearn for you and let you know I'm yearning for you but yet keep my distance and abandon you because I'm not worthy.
