He found out that it was the other AI from TA that moved the stars around in Freeside and edited Molly's simstim signal. Now he is stuck in this fake reality, but the Linda in this place was a construct rather than an avatar for Wintermute. She had been stuck here for a while now. And seemed to be waiting for Case to show up.

After they dismounted the cart, they came across another antique Sony monitor. The Finn appeared as usual, telling him to jack into the sockets. He got conned into another fabricated reality. He ended up on a beach with silver sand, and a city came into view. He walked for a long time, finding a stone bunker. Inside, Linda was warming next to a fire.

Case and Maelcum climbed the circular ladder to the hatch. After it was opened, it led them into a round, vaulted chamber. A small Eurasian in orange overalls stepped into the chamber. He was shocked by their presence. Maelcum pointed the Remington at him and told him to move it. They arrived at a console with a complex array of jack panels. Case readied himself to jack in.

Case fastened the construct to the bottom of the Ono-Sendai with micropore tape. With two lengths of shock cord, he created an improvised shoulder strap to carry the construct and the deck. The tug Garvey had parked at the dock of Starylight. They regained gravity due to the spindle. And they are ready to move into Starylight.

Case flipped back in, Molly was unconscious. But he could overhear the conversation between 3Jane and Riviera. 3Jane planned to save Molly. She told Hideo to bring a medical unit down from intensive care. In the conversation, she implied Hideo could take Molly on alone without Rivieria's help. Case flipped out, noticing that the Garvey was closing onto the Starylight's dock.

Reading Part 4 - The Straylight Run - 18

While Molly was chatting to 3Jane, Riverra appeared. Rambled a bit about his unquatifiable quality, and smashed a highball glass into one of Molly's eyes. Case Flipped, he told Flatline he was going to jack him out of the circuit and plug him back into the Starylight custodial net in his deck, leaving the virus in the hosaka penetrating the ice by itself.

Part 4 - The Straylight Run - 18

After a lapse, Case jacked back in to check in with Flatline. Kuang was doing its job just fine. Then he flipped. Molly sat in one of the pool chairs, injured with a broken leg, but the pain was scattered as a tight focus of scrambled impressions. 3Jane sat opposite to her in an oversized djellaba. They started talking about Molly's intention and her deed.

Molly was restrained by a matte black sphere that swallowed both of her wrists. She was unable to move due to the agony of losing her leg. Case jacked out, trying to think of a new plan. Wintermute, as the Finn appeared on the Cray monitor, told Case that he and Maelcum had to go into the Straylight, finishing the job for Molly. Case as the brain, and Maelcum as the brawn.

A pool sat in the middle of the room, ten metres from the foot of the stairway. They were waiting by it. The boy dived into the pool, but Molly tossed a grenade into it before his hands borke the surface. They sent a storm of explosive darts into Ashpool's corpse, but it vanished. When the muzzle swung for 3Jane, Molly's leg collapsed, and Case screamed in Garvey.

Molly had the right attitude and posture when she was marching down the stairs. It was like the culmination of a life-stime's observation of martial arts tapes. But she missed it by a fraction it seemed.
