Hiratori is doing their best to show sex work in a sympathetic light but I fear their personal biases are still coming through.... Haru being a JK (high school girl) is clearly chosen due to how over sexualized and attacked teen girls are but at the same time Hiratori through Haru is stating that 16-20 years old really IS the time period that women (girls!) have the highest libido. Anyway!

"It's only scary because you think it's scary. [...] It's only gross because you think it's gross." OK we are finally getting a peek into Haru's coping strategy 😭

Literally every chappppterrrr. And I know (from reading the manga) that the purpose is to bluntly show sex work in the misogynist shonen-isekai setting and danger is inherent to the job due to said misogyny but. goddam. Let her catch a break!

Every chapter is Haru going "God! Customer service jobs are the WORST!" and then something genuinely horrifying happens to her.

The first person perspective is doing this story a disservice. Haru is only telling us what she wants us to know, and since like 30-40% of her brash confidence is a front to protect herself from her situation we are getting a skewed view of what's going on. Which the author could be doing on purpose! But I feel its more that isekai light novels are expected to be in first perspective.
