I figured if this was the year that I was going to finally watch all of Hitchcock's existent films, I ought to finally read this classic cover to cover.

Truffaut asking if Joan Harrison actually "work[ed] on the screenplay [for "Rebecca"] or was that simply a way of representing [Hitchcock] on the credits" is why I refer to him and Godard as the "Cahiers du Cinema Bros." Dude had plenty of material to fawn over Hitchcock about. He didn't need to attempt to discredit a woman in order to heap on more.

First talkies discussed in this section, plus Hitchcock's famous definition of suspense vs surprise.

Done with the section on silents. Knowing Hitchcock didn't think much of his silent output makes me feel less bad about not being super into them. However, as much as he advocates for a pure cinema of visuals and montage, Hitchcock underestimates how much dialogue will give personality to his films.

I had either forgotten or never knew that Hitchcock was raised Catholic, which seems bonkers given how much guilt factors into his films.
