casual homophobia, casual misogyny (that DONT NEED TO BE IN THIS BOOK BTW. LIKE IT DOES NOTHING FOR THE CHARACTER NOR THE SETTING NOR THE PLOT LIKE FUCK IT’S J BROWN). narrator is so fucking annoying I can’t also bro’s wife is dead — he says it every other paragraph + we were at the execution — but there’s just something missing from the way he behaves following this event even tho it’s the catalyst

the main character is annoying as fuck, the world building is poorly done, this is lowkey just another THG rip off flop, and there’s gratuitous rape and assault that just .. doesn’t need to be there. I def should’ve read this when it came out and I was like 13 and maybe I would’ve cared more abt this whiny fuck ass little boy . can pierce brown write? in a certain sense. should he? fuck no. idgi guys 💔

ok to be so fair I’ve JUST started this book but the child marriages and whole vibe of this so far are reminding me of freaking anthem by ayn rand and that’s not promising but I have hope bc my friends have loved this will update
