“Women can, to a certain extent, accept men as role models, but men won’t do the same for women. Women will buy books by and about men, but men won’t buy books by and about women, or at least not many.”

Don’t EVEN bring up Rosalind Franklin to me. I will begin foaming at the mouth in anger at the men (whose names I refuse to learn) who stole the credit for her world-changing discoveries.

“When you say man, you don’t include women, do you? Even if everybody does technically know that… When the generic masculine is used, people are more likely to recall famous men than famous women, estimate a profession as male-dominated, suggest male candidates for jobs and political appointments. Women are also less likely to apply and to perform well in interviews for jobs that use the generic masculine.”
