Like, there's an entire prior Death book establishing how he does not have the power to spare a life and that trying to do so can lead to universe instability. The instant he is confronted with his ability to do so as Discworld Santa he immediately saves a little orphan girl who is meant to die alone in the cold. When characters die the cruel ones get sarcasm, the decent ones get kindness and comfort and a gentle guidance into the next life. He is the sweetest sweetie to ever be and I would, ironically, literally die for him.
