After a narrow escape from the sheriff of Bidewood, our trio arrive at Ardham and gets settled into the Braithwhite manor. But suspicions catches onto Atticus.
I’m loving this story so far, there references to racism that may be unsettling, yet it’s the eerie vibe & the underlying mystery that Atticus must uncover that keeps me hooked. There may be Lovecraftian horror in the mix, but we will wait and see.

The trio looks around Ardham for a bit, then have dinner with some white guests. After a bit of quick-thinking, Atticus meets the Braithwhite patriarch.
Ok, so we have some eerie tension, a bit of racial allegory, and a few surprisingly solid quips from Atticus. I’m also convinced that the book take a strange turn. I love how it juxtapositions fantastical horror with the realistic horror of racism.

Atticus, George & Letitia’s quest to find Mateus takes them to Letitia’s brother’s house where they learn the dangerous way to get to their destination, when our trio travel though, they have to go through an unpleasant white town & get confronted by a racist sheriff.
Looks like I’m loving this road-trip book that features an uneasy tension of bigotry that is prevalent in the era. Will our trio make it?

Started reading Lovecraft County, where a war veteran, Atticus, his travel-guide writing uncle, George, and a fellow traveler, Letitia, go on a trip to Lovecraft County to find Atticus’s dad.
Well, this book had a good first impression, as the story features old books, racism and travelling through the country. There’s also a bit of strangeness, thanks to strange sightings, like a mysterious car and a creature.
