I'm not quite done with book 1, and it is far more entertaining than I perceived it to be when I saw it popping up in friends' inventory. I assumed from its look it would be a pulpy read. This is...not that. It's clever without trying too hard, and the characters are fantastically...believable. No spoilers. Just read it, already.
