The child SA in young mungo was horrific, and to see it again on page in this book…. Kinda makes me mad uncomfy??? Do all your books need to involve SA-ing a child mr Douglas?????
I’m this far in the book and barely know shuggie to…. So to be grossly molested on page this far in to the story is so 🤢🤢🤢🤢

This has gotta be in my top 3 most depressing books ever, not a sliver of happiness or a single character to enjoy in sight????

Oh I know you barely know shuggie but he’s 11 and I’m going to sexually assault him now on page 🤢🤢🤢
Definitely finding this one a lot harder! 😭
I read this a while ago - 2021 and didn’t write a review. But I remember needing to take breaks from it. I think because Shuggie is so young and his whole story is just so fucking tragic.
Ugh that's why I'm staying far away from this one, I like emotionally devastating stories once in a while, but I have to see a glimmer of hope, and to have an on-page SA of a child at 75 percent?? That's not what I want to see in my books T_T seems like this author isn't pulling any punches, yikes. Is there even a possibility of a hopeful ending??

Agnes is a disgusting waste of space, but she’s had a fucked life. But poor shuggie omgggg I can’t handle all this child neglect 😭

I can’t recommend to do that enough for your own brain. Even though the books are well written, it’s so insanely depressing that I’m finding it hard to continue. And every time the author gives you one drop of THE IDEA of happiness…. It’s ripped away from you x 300.
And I can’t see there being a HEA… with what’s happening… kinda the same happens in young mungo to, it’s like an open ended “hopeful” ending… and it was awful, so I’m expecting this to be the same or similar tbh hahahaha 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
I liked Young Mungo, despite it being horrific and bleak, but I really couldnt get on with this book at all, i couldn't find anything redeeming in it. A really sad slog.

I liked young mungo too even though it was depressing, I still enjoyed it and cried. But this one is fkn rough in a bad way 😭😭😭
