... Sometimes I am surprised at just how fast I can read something. Anyhoo, not what I wanted to comment on.

See I just don't believe this. Is it the dream? Having an office, a library, a big bedroom and never guests who stay over? Sure sure. But is it realistic?
I just do not believe this. Even in a perfect fantasy world. Not in a Black or Latino family. And really not when you actually like your family! What do you mean they have no space in your home? What if they are drunk? Tired? Sick? They go on the floor?

Really glad my partner blindly accepts my conspiracy theory that the author has a white mum. Plus they added theirs: the author has to be an only child.
Because seriously (and no I will not let this go) what do you mean you have a townhouse, big ass family and just one bed?!

Here is why I suspect the author was told to include some specific tropes because what do you mean there is only one bed?
Ma'am. You and the dad are Black. Your mum is something Spanish speaking. You have brothers. You have a big ass house. What do you mean nobody ever stayed over?
Those are literally the two biggest well known cultures where family stays over. Even if you do not want them to... Unrealistic.

This is going to sound horrible but he is Black right? Did they put him into a White foster family? His internal voice sounds... Not-Black. I am aware that this is deeply problematic and horrible to say but at the same time I think if you know, you know what I mean.
As a half-blood (that does not translate well but it makes me laugh) I get it though.

Ah. Although the main character and I have some things in common I do not have anxiety and I have noticed I get a bit irritable with her behaviour.
I get she cannot help it but I still get annoyed with it.
This happened with another book in which the main character had anxiety. Apparently this is where I have trouble finding some empathy (just act normal!) Not a nice discovery... 😬
