This reminds me of when I was reading all those big political Fantasy books… I thought it was my age that made me so shit with them but nope, just like mysteries I do not get it.

I am curious to see how this plays out but because I actually do have a lot of knowledge about foster care systems (although in a different country) I do not know if I will enjoy this as much as other books by this author.

At least Oliver seems somewhat realistic about the situation

All to say that fostering is not as easy as people say, just like teaching, most people have an opinion about it but rarely do they know what is waiting for them.
And because budget cuts all over the world seem to hit the care system the hardest, there is never enough money to get the help a foster family truly needs.

The thing with fostering is that you get a family for ‘free’ and I do not mean the kids. I mean the parents and they can be a source for conflict. You do not get to choose the kid without inflicting damage to them.

And just when you think everything is settled they will go away for a weekend visit and fight more than before with you, because it is safe to do. Nice but sucky at the same time.

Ok this is interesting. People who want to foster mostly fall into two categories: want children but cannot get them any other way or want ‘to do some good into the world’.

Both tend to be a bit delusional (as in too optimistic) and it is always interesting to see how their views change.

I can see the resemblance between Luc and me, which kind of sucks because at times he is being an utter shithead…
