“So was their reverence for the written word. Babcock’s was less a bookstore, Margaret decided, than a highly curated collection of books that Helen and Edwin passionately wanted others to read.”

The book is referencing women needing their husband’s APPROVAL 🤢 to get birth control + open their own bank account, then to the suffragette movement, stating “Had we waited for men to give us the vote, it never would have happened. We had to demand it for ourselves and do the work to see it through.” So many points in this book are making me realize how little we’ve actually progressed since then…
