I'm really enjoying the read, but I'm also taking way too much time savoring the local references. I'm quite surprised at the leniency afforded to the prisoners up to this point, and it very much feels like a retelling of the "salad days" before everything goes south. Regardless of wanting to pick up my pace, it is a little difficult to due to the ambience. It's a sweaty, musky, sunburned read.
