DNFing. i just can't. the prose is too dense. it's giving victorian gothic but in the 1940's and dennis' voice was fun for a while but i just zone out for pages now. the characters aren't grabbing me and the story isn't either.

i fear the story is reeling me in but the writing style is giving pretentious guy at a party who thinks he can use sophisticated words he doesn't entirely know the meaning of as long as he does so with egocentric confidence because then no one will call him out for being wrong. never has the word esoteric been used so many times in 20 pages, never has "his load" been used so much on one page.
