“You know better than that. I’m impossible to get rid of.” I shook my head with a smile playing on my lips as I threw his words back at him. “Like an infection.”

He didn’t laugh or smile, and he didn’t attempt a joke as his eyes bored into mine. “If that is true…” The fear in his gaze shifted, becoming another primal emotion. “… then I wish for you to infect me.”

“‘Friend’?” he hissed through gritted teeth.

“… What?” I asked, confused. I glanced at him, then toward Ava and Geraldo, who kept walking. Then it clicked: he was pissed about me calling him my friend earlier.

“That’s eight ways now, because when we leave here, I’m going to fuck the word friend out of your vocabulary.” 🤭

Her kiss was light, tantalizing—and everything I never knew I had been missing.

She pulled back and looked up at me, her fingers tracing the line of my jaw. A slow, mischievous smile curved her lips. “You still have witch breath.”

Something snapped in me, and I was afraid it was my self-control. Desire coiled and burned in me, and I let it. “Then fix it,” I dared, throwing down the challenge.

“Don’t laugh, but as lame as it sounds, I do want what Gabby worships in her silly cheesy movies. Well, I did. I tried to get serious with Kaden once. He pulled away from me then. He’s been different ever since. Definitely more of an open relationship type of guy.”

His eyes bored into mine a fraction of a second too long. “Pity. I wouldn’t share.”
