The whole “Mother appearing in blue cloak” (mentioned more than once)—is that an intentional reference? Anyway, the whole Magic talk was perhaps too explicit/preachy, but I wasn’t too bothered by it. It is akin to grace. The garden is a source of grace in the story, a place of transformation and redemption.
