Stuart’s prose is such a breath of fresh air….controlled, precise, intelligent. No theatrics. No over explaining. This is dark done with restraint. I already want more Anne Stuart. If this is the standard, I’ve been reading the wrong kind of “dark” for a while.

I’m genuinely surprised by how much I’m enjoying this. Historical romance doesn’t always work for me because the tension can feel small and centered on society gossip rather than real stakes.
