I have to admit... I am finding it harder and harder to want to finish the whole series. It's not a bad book, I am just...wishing I was reading something else... And there are 5 more books after this one...

Torturing and SA-ing a character, who is barely an adult... I did NOT expect that... I will try to finish the book, but ... I am not fine with this... There should be trigger warnings.

Twenty Eleven As much as I enjoyed, cherished and loved to pieces The Tamír Triad by this author, I couldn't get past the first 100 pages of this book. And I bought the whole series without even having read the first one because Lynn Flewelling was an auto-buy author to me.
I personally couldn't get over my deep distaste for the uber long, apostrophized names I couldn't remember a single one and it was a pretentious indulgence the author could have done without.
Luck in the Shadows was okay, but after two tries I gave up on this book.

Haha! I know what you mean. I am listening to the audiobook and it does get better around 30% (I am at 37%), but ... it's almost 20 hours long! (Wow, 10% for one month, I'll finish this book next year at that rate XD) I am spared from trying to read the names then at least. It does sound annoying. Even in audio format, some of the names sound similar and/or hard to remember.

There is a LOT of random things happening, which help with the world-building and character development, I guess, but I am just not that interested for some reason - I guess I would've prefered a more focused plot.

Problem is... there are 7 books and each one is super long. I'll be lucky if I finish this one XD

Twenty Eleven If you want to give Flewelling another chance you'll go better with The Tamír Triad. For one it's shorter, and the story is great without the annoying triple-apostrophized names XD
I'm curious about the audio version, the names sounded so bizarre, and likely incorrect, in my head.

(Sorry about the late reply, GR never notified me...of course.)

Gergana No worries :) I am actually half-way through and it DOES pick up the pace. I am still confused by all the events and what the goal is. Mainly because I made such a big pause, I suppose.

Thank you for the recommendation, I might give The Tamír Triad a chance after finishing this one. "triple-apostrophized names" - LOL! I am so glad I am listening to the audio version! Not sure why, but the names are so different, yet I always have to think about which character is talking XD

Twenty Eleven And after she finished the last book in this series, I believe about 10 years ago, Lynn went poof.
Hasn't written anything else and it makes me sad, she either ran out of juice and stories or her books were not selling well and she can't get any new material published.

Gergana Twenty Eleven!! Thanks to your comments I am reminded to continue reading XD And guess what - I am at 66% now. Seregil went back to his home - lots of people were killed and Alec is kidnapped! (I was like - why didn't we get Alec's POV for that, but oh well). By this point, both characters are cautiously showing their emotions for eachother and Alec disappearing has made Seregil into a vicious, cold, killing machine. I am curious to see what will happen now! :)

Gergana Oh God... somebody should've put a trigger warning... Alec is being tortured, SA-ed, and almost r@p3d... my head and stomach are not ok, not sure how to feel about this turn of events. How come nobody is talking about this in the reviews?

Twenty Eleven Well, it is marketed for an adult audience and by the time this series was being read there wasn't a CW madness on GR--now it's completely out of control: I've seen athma and magic curses listed as TGs; I wish I was making this up.
By my own personal experience, trigger warnings were used sparingly for younger audience books for school librarians or parents, or when a YA/MG was incorrectly marketed as such. No one bothered with books for adults. 😂
