I am finding this really interesting. After she gets her own house the story kind of loses a little steam. It feels like the author was looking for something to talk about, she didn't have enough material, and used presidential elections as a filler. There is a lot of talk to about the elections, but they didn't always feel all that connected to her life, with a couple exceptions, so it felt like filler.

I initially added this book to my TBR list back when I lived in Colorado (seems like a life time ago) and I had heard about the wild history of the towns around where I lived, including Salida.
