Christina Baehr Is this your first Goudge?! I never finished it actually. I suggest starting with The Dean’s Watch!

Nicole It is my first and I was determined to love it but I am not! I will definitely try that one, I haven’t heard of it. I’m 12 weeks pregnant so I’m afraid nothing is getting a fair trial right now.

Christina Baehr This would NOT be the Goudge I recommend to start with. And all the best with your pregnancy and finding books that jive with it!

Nicole Noted. I will not give up on her yet. I did very much recognize the beauty of some of her writing - though I can’t say I was able to enjoy it right now. And the very counter-cultural push against following your passions and towards faithfulness EVEN WHEN you have to sacrifice your own happiness was really fantastic. I don’t think I’ve ever read a fiction book that has dealt so openly with marriage in this way, specifically a loveless marriage where there’s no abuse or affairs, etc. I did appreciate that in the end.
