everyone failed her including may beth. it's a cruel cruel world for silenced victims out there


this is the kind of book that will leave you seething with rage right after finishing it. it's impossible for you to not feel livid about the ending. It's just unfair and the girls don't deserve it. No one does.


the world can be really dark and twisty and coldhearted

it's strange that sadie didnt meet a single soul who would helped her. everyone was intimidated how determined she is to find the person she is looking for. how she has this fire in her eyes. not one single soul asked her if she's okay and she's just a kid ffs!!! why is everyone afraid of her? is a teenager seeking for justice such a scary thing?

it breaks my heart that sadie didnt trust the police to do their job because their sloppy investigation of mattie's death just proves her point that no one feels the same way she does. it breaks my heart that all the adults miserably failed the girls.

the way all the people sadie met were complicit to the criminal's predilection just breaks my heart. what do you mean all these people were bystanders and allowed these bad things to happen. it breaks my heart that these girls suffered so much because adults didnt know any better.

to be honest i wasnt that hooked and invested with the story in the first and middle portions. like sure a teenager avenging her sister's death is not something new. but the way the ending tied up all the loose strings neatly especially. the ending pulled off everything and shocked me and broke my heart in unthinkable ways.

I felt as restless and reckless as I imagined Sadie was back then, like I had a need to run, to get back on the road, to drive until I fulfilled my purpose.

hauntingly breaking your heart/unimaginable cruel cruel world. this is why dont generally read mystery thrillers. they reveal the cruelty of the world and the harsh truths. i should probably stick to my romcoms and coming of age stories ahaha

all of sadie's hostility and wrath is valid. at first i thought she was being to spiteful and scary and stubborn but no her depression led her to this. to kill keith is her goal

Sadie must’ve told me every time she saw me how much she hated him. I didn’t listen. I thought she was being a kid but … she was never a kid


bad people try to appear as good to the public. they only show their fangs and horns to their victims. they only show their bad side to victims who cant utter a word, call the cops/report and fight back. so sadie eventually did all of those
