If Greek mythology weren’t the remains of an ancient religion I would assume the gods were a metaphor for the elite class. The way humans don’t really condone the behavior of the gods as a whole, but worship and offer sacrifices to avoid being punished. Also the gods’ lack of empathy is easily interpreted as a result of their never needing to want or work for anything. Still could be a metaphor I guess
