Well.. I just finished the chapter where one young woman is exalted for copying the art of great men rather than filling galleries with pictures from her own female mind - like a snow landscape, which Hawthorne equates to a picture version of “feminine achievements in literature”.

I want to read this book. I like the slow, wordy, contemplative style. But damn, Nathaniel, really coming off as a twit
