“Thank you for your consideration.” Never gets old!

I can’t help myself, whenever the citizens of 12 or anyone salutes, I must too. It’s not exactly the same home alone in my reading nook, yet I must salute anyway.

I have so many books I could finish first, but the reread has called to me.

And it’s not about the sponsors. And it’s not about what will happen back home. And it’s not just that I don’t want to be alone. It’s him. I do not want to lose the boy with the bread.

This is exactly what I needed. Like a much needed visit with an old friend.

Betrayal. That’s the first thing I feel, which is ludicrous. For there to be betrayal, there would have to have been trust first.

“You know how to kill.”

“Not people,” I say.

“How different can it be, really?” says Gale grimly.

The awful thing is that if I can forget they’re people, it will be no different at all.
