You think what will be next - is there anything left to describe in the grimest details and then voila - you are astonished that there can be more to the human barbarity. But the story isn't crude it comes off as authentic - the character of Tejo in third person is someone you can resonate with, understand why he doesn't eat the special meat and why this might be frowned upon, why when he does eat it - he relishes it

When I first started reading the book the first 1-2 chapters felt unappealing, but then from Senor Urami to most importantly el gringo things turned sharply - the whole process with the details stare back at you - more like a grimace.

Surely reading the full details with the finer points seem very gross and makes you feel disgusted because the same points more or less are applicable to animals currently
